I was helping a tenant select a new paint color for his office. Before I could place any orders for materials I needed the tenant to sign off on his choice of paint color.
Me: Here you go, just need you to sign here to approve the paint and we’ll get the work scheduled for next week.
Tenant: I’m not signing that. The color is wrong.
Me: No, it’s correct. The paint color that you selected is right here on the color sample. See, the style number and name is listed right under the color you picked out.
Tenant: I’m not signing that. It’s wrong. I don’t want a silver office. I don’t want metallic walls!
Me: You won’t have a silver office because the color you selected isn’t silver. It’s right here on the swatch, you can see it right here, it’s the grey color that you picked out. The number underneath it identifies it as DE6387 and the color name is Dangerous Robot.
Tenant: EXACTLY! Everyone knows robots are silver! I am not going to allow you to paint my office silver!
I had to scratch out the name before the tenant would sign the paperwork. The color selection number remained untouched but the Dangerous Robot was just too dangerous to leave on the form.
