I received a call from a very upset tenant.

Tenant: You have to fix this awful smell in my shop!  I’m going to call the health department on you!  It’s disgusting!  My customers are complaining!  You can’t expect me to pay rent for this!

Me: I’m so sorry!  I want to help but I need some more information. Does it happen when you turn on the air conditioning?  When did you first notice it?

Tenant: I don’t use the air conditioning.  All of my doors are open to get fresh air.  I first noticed it when I drove in this morning.

Me: You noticed it when you drove in?

Tenant: Yes!  It just smells horrible out there.

Me:  Out there?  You mean it smells bad outside?

Tenant: Yes!  The wind is blowing over from the mushroom farm in the next town.  It’s just disgusting!

Me:  So you’re telling me the horrible smell is outside?  You’re upset that your shop smells bad because you have the doors open and the smell from outside is coming inside?

Tenant: Yes!  You have to do something about this!
