I received several frantic calls from tenants in an office building. They reported that someone was blasting loud horrible music in the place. My office was next door so I went to check it out and for a brief moment I heard some music and then it stopped. After checking all over I didn’t hear anything else and went back to my office.
I barely made it back to my desk when the calls came in again. I went next door again and like the last time the music stopped soon after I walked into the building. I heard enough to recognize what sounded like a screaming trumpet but not enough to figure out where it was coming from.
This went on for a while. I’d get the calls and would go next door and then the music would stop. I’d wait a while for it to start up again but when that didn’t happen I’d go back to my office. Then I’d get another call. It was really frustrating but I did manage to get a lot of exercise from all the going back and forth.
A few hours later I got another call and I jumped up and ran next door and this time I heard the squawking trumpet playing long enough to figure out what floor it was coming from. I went in every office on that floor to ask about the noise and very quickly found the source. There was an attorney sitting at his desk playing his trumpet in between phone calls and working.
Me: You have to stop playing! It’s way too loud! The noise is disturbing the rest of the building!
Tenant: Oh that can’t be right. It’s just some music. I’m sure it’s not that bad.
Me: It is! It’s very loud. You have to stop. I’m getting lots of complaints about it.
Tenant: But I’m trying out for my church band and I have to practice! It’s just a little music. No one could really be bothered by this. Everyone loves music. Everyone loves to hear me play!
Me: Well you can’t do it here. You’ll just have to practice at home.
Tenant: I can’t. My wife won’t let me. She says it hurts her head.
